675,000 Cigarette Packs Confiscated at Haifa Port

The Israel Tax Authority announced Wednesday that authorities had intercepted 675,000 packs of cigarettes at Haifa Port.

Initially declared as a shipment of noodles from Turkey destined for sale in Israel, investigations indicate an intent to resell the cigarettes within the Palestinian Authority.

Mehran Salim, from Muqeible, an Arab-Israeli town, faced the Haifa Magistrate’s Court and was subsequently released under specific constraints. According to court filings, he had tried to avoid paying some NIS 14 million in taxes on the cigarettes.
