State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman has launched an investigation into the events surrounding the tragic Simchas Torah massacre, on Oct. 7 of last year.

The focus of this inquiry is squarely on the IDF, representing a significant step toward establishing accountability in the aftermath of the country’s most severe mishap.

In an official statement, Englman emphasized the necessity of this review, citing his “public and ethical obligation” to uncover the circumstances leading to the massacre. The investigation, spanning political, military, and civilian spheres, aims to illuminate the systemic failures contributing to the tragedy.

Despite objections raised by IDF Chief of Staff General Herzi Halevi regarding the unprecedented nature of the investigation and its potential impact on ongoing Gaza operations, Englman remains committed to transparency and justice.

In letters addressed to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Halevi, Englman stressed the crucial importance of their full cooperation with the state inquiry, urging compliance with investigation teams and adherence to legal procedures. As the investigation progresses, the nation awaits answers and accountability in the aftermath of one of its darkest days.
