Report: U.S. Places Hold on a Shipment of Ammunition to Israel

The U.S. halted a shipment of ammunition before leaving for Israel, marking the first such occasion since October 7, according to two Israeli officials who spoke with Axios on Sunday.

The hold, which reportedly was placed last week, raised serious concerns in the Israeli government, the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

However the cause of the hold was not known to the officials, and the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, the White House, Pentagon and State Department have thus far not commented on the matter. President Joe Biden has faced criticism from some members of his Democratic party who accuse him of supporting what they say are Israeli violations of international law during its war against the Hamas terror group in Gaza. Israel says its activities are well within and far exceed the requirements of such laws.

In March, Israel provided a letter of assurances to the U.S., outlining the ways in which weapons and ammunition it receives are used.
