A senior IDF source has expressed concerns about the escalating provocations by the Hezbollah terrorist group along Israel’s northern border, according to Yisrael Hayom. The source warns that a conflict with Hezbollah is not a matter of if, but when.

In recent incidents, including the recent missile launch near Ghajar, the IDF had no prior intelligence regarding the attacks. The missile narrowly missed a military vehicle, highlighting the potential for a drastically different outcome and underscoring the gravity of the situation in northern Israel.

An unnamed senior commander in northern Israel revealed to Yisrael Hayom, “The exact timing remains uncertain, but it is inevitable that war will occur. We are maintaining a state of high alert. While past infiltrations primarily involved labor-seekers, we are now witnessing deliberate provocations along the border fence.”

Simultaneously, the IDF, particularly the Northern Command, is attempting to project a facade of “business as usual” and insists that neither side desires to be dragged into a full-scale war. According to them, both parties aim to inflict damage discreetly, avoiding publicized achievements that could embarrass the other side.

Yisrael Hayom reports that, outwardly, the IDF appears unaffected by Hezbollah’s provocations. However, behind the scenes, the situation is entirely different and deliberately concealed. Even Hezbollah refrains from publicizing Israel’s responses, as evidenced by its delayed announcement of the new fence at Ghajar, which was kept secret for a year.

David Azoulay, the head of the Metula Council, expressed his concerns to Yisrael Hayom, stating, “In exchange for quiet, the north has been neglected, and no one seems to care. [Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah understands that engaging in a conflict with Israel would be detrimental for them. While he may not initiate a conflict, I sense that Hezbollah is pushing boundaries without restraint.”
