Two police officers were wounded in a terror ambush attack in the central Arab-Israeli town of Kafr Qasem early Friday.

Police said the officers were hit by a car and shot at; they were evacuated to Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva in stable condition. Police named the terrorist, who was shot dead, as Naim Badir, a resident of the town in his 20s.

It is understood Badir called police to the scene and then started firing at them; then he tried to run them over with his vehicle.

Law enforcement found a Carlo submachine gun and Molotov cocktails at the building site where the assailant waited in ambush. A knife was found in the vehicle.

Israeli media reports said the officers were first shot at and then hit by a car. The terrorist was neutralized, the reports said, and later died of his wounds. Police later found a knife in his car.

The officers, who were lightly wounded, were hospitalized. Law enforcement is currently searching for more suspects as it was unclear whether the driver had acted alone.
