United Torah Judaism MK Uri Maklev, who was on hand for the first day of classes at the Chinich Atzmai school Pele Yoetz-Even Yisrael in Ashkelon, said of Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman, who sought an injunction against a threatened teachers strike:

“The same person who wanted to issue terrible budgetary decrees against the chareidi educational system now wants all the teachers to behave like those in the chareidi system, with dedication, with no strikes. But when education is a value, we don’t strike, don’t protest,” said Maklev.

The UTJ MK was accompanied by representatives of Degel Hatorah in the city, Avshalom Yaakovi and Avraham Gutstein.

Maklev also visited the Chofetz Chaim school in Rishon LeTzion, where he met as well with the head of the chareidi kehillah Rav Moshe Nachshoni shlit”a. During their hour-long talk, the rav told him about the growth of the Torah community in Rishon LeTzion, which has become a magnet for many yidden from the surrounding area, and about the various challenges facing its development. Maklev lauded the parents who instead of going on vacation stay to bring their children to Talmudei Torah, and that this is the answer to all those who seek our harm, that the sound of Torah of the children cannot be stopped.
