Three bomb threats were reported at Jewish institutions in New York City and a fourth at the Brooklyn Museum over the weekend, raising the level of concern over recent antisemitic incidents in the city.

An email containing a bomb threat was sent to the temple at 7 West 83rd Street in Manhattan at 3:15 p.m., which caused the facility to be evacuated. Police reported that nothing found at that location.

Elsewhere on the West Side of Manhattan, an email was sent to the temple at 130 West 30th Street at 4:28 p.m. The premises was empty at the time, and police found nothing at that location as well.

At 5:13 p.m., an email was sent to the temple in Brooklyn Heights located at 131 Remsen Street, where three employees were evacuated. A search of the building found nothing suspicious.

At 5:29 p.m., a bomb threat was sent to the Brooklyn Museum located at 200 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights threatening to blow up the Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum subway station.

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul released a statement in which she said, “We are actively monitoring a number of bomb threats at synagogues in New York. Threats have been determined not to be credible, but we will not tolerate individuals sowing fear & antisemitism. Those responsible must be held accountable for their despicable actions.”

Alex Bores, Assemblymember for the 73rd District of New York who represents areas of Manhattan reported that at least 20 synagogues were targeted, including at least 4 in his district.

“I’ve spoken with rabbis and the Police; they have investigated the specific threats and found them to be not credible. Antisemitism is unacceptable, and the perpetrators should be prosecuted,” he said in a statement.

Police have not released the text of the emails, and are still investigating if the threats are connected.
