Ambassador Ron Dermer’s Term Extended
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has decided to extend the term of Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., Ron Dermer, for another year, according to media reports on Wednesday night.
Netanyahu explained the extension to cabinet ministers as being due to “unique political circumstances in the international arena in general, and relations with the United States in particular,” according to Channel 10.
“Mr. Dermer has managed to create a wide and high-quality network of contacts during his tenure in Washington, enabling him to advance Israel’s highest goals vis-à-vis the administration and Congress,” the prime minister added.
Dermer was first appointed five years ago. Last March, Netanyahu extended Dermer’s term by a year to help develop ties with the Trump administration, after a difficult tenure during the Obama years.
