Report: Secret Search for Missing IDF Soldiers in Egypt

YERUSHALAYIM (Hamodia Staff) —

An Israeli delegation arrived in Cairo early Thursday morning on a clandestine mission to try to locate the bodies of 22 soldiers who went missing during Israel’s wars in Egypt, The Jerusalem Post said, quoting Egyptian media sources.

The sources said that the delegation traveled in a Jordanian plane from Amman.

The IDF did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Of the 22 soldiers, 16 went missing during the Yom Kippur War, two during the War of Attrition and four during the Six Day War.

It’s the first such delegation since the end of the Mubarak regime. The last attempt was in February 2010. The current group is said to be undertaking its search for the soldiers’ place of burial in a few separate areas of Egypt.
