Israel’s Association of University Heads on Friday issued a statement expressing deep concern over the recent escalation of violence, antisemitism, and anti-Israel sentiment witnessed in protests across various prominent universities in the United States.

The association specifically points out the involvement of Palestinian groups, some of which are designated as terrorist organizations, in organizing and supporting these events. According to the statement, this surge in hostility has created an environment where Israeli and Jewish students and faculty members feel compelled to conceal their identities or avoid campus altogether due to fears of physical harm.

The protests, largely driven by American students opposed to the Israel-Hamas war, have demanded universities sever financial ties with Israel and divest from companies perceived to support the ongoing war. However, concerns have been raised by Jewish students who claim that these protests have crossed the line into antisemitism, instilling fear and discomfort among them, and leading to a more assertive response from university administrations.

While acknowledging the importance of freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate, the Association of University Heads emphasizes that these rights do not extend to violence, threats against communities, or calls for the destruction of Israel. In response to the challenges faced by Jewish and Israeli students and faculty, the association pledges its support and assistance. It commits to aiding those who wish to seek refuge in Israeli universities, promising a welcoming academic and personal environment for them to thrive.
