With less than a month to Lag BaOmer, the IDF recommends canceling activities in Meron this year altogether due to the ongoing missile barrages from Hezbollah.

An official in the War Cabinet said, “There will be no hilula in Meron this year on Lag BaOmer. It’s too risky to have thousands gathered on the mountain amid potential attacks.”

Additionally, senior officials in Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s office have advised the Yerushalayim Affairs Ministry and the Ministry of Religious Services against preparing for the hilula due to the prevailing security concerns.

Over the past months, hundreds of missiles have targeted the air base on Mt. Meron, and missiles have landed on roads leading to the tziyun.

An IDF spokesperson announced, “Based on the latest operational assessment, the IDF has advised relevant authorities to cancel the hilula on Mount Meron. There are no further changes regarding Home Front instructions.”

On Tuesday, a preparatory tour at the tziyun was led by Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai, with participation from the Northern Police Department, Chief Shoki Tachaucha; Rabbi Yossi Deutsch, project manager of Meron, and other senior officials.

Given the security situation, the focus is currently on permanent infrastructure improvements for future years.

“We are preparing for any scenario,” stated Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai. “The final decision on the event will be made in the coming days by the Home Front Command, in consultation with security officials and political leaders.”
