Israel police on Monday arrested a 65-year-old woman from the south of the country on suspicion that she sent death threats to the wife and son of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett last month.

Police slammed a gag order on their investigation.

The first of the death threats, addressed to Bennett’s wife Gilat, was sent on April 26, and prompted an investigation by the police’s serious crimes unit, along with the Shin Bet.

The second letter, addressed to Bennett’s 16-year-old son Yoni, was received two days later, on April 28.

Bennett said in response that political disagreements, no matter how deep, should not turn violent. “We must do everything to make sure that does not happen,” he said.

“I call on everyone from all sides of the political spectrum – now is the time for calm and appeasement,” Bennett said.

Bennett has been criticized by members of the right wing after he opted to join a coalition made up of parties opposing former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

His critics claimed he had abandoned his right-wing political views and his election promises to head a coalition that includes left-wing Knesset factions and the Ra’am party.
