Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz has urged the United States to reconsider military options to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

“Now is the time for the world, led by the United States, to have an effective military threat against the Iranian regime, if it will continue its nuclear program,” Katz declared at a Jerusalem Post-sponsored conference on Thursday.

Previously, Katz had only called for sanctions on Iran.

The minister said also that the economic sanctions against Tehran are important and effective, and that America should not let up on its “maximum pressure” campaign.

“We see the demonstrations in Iraq, Lebanon and also in Iran, and it is clear that the pressure is working,” Katz told the gathering of ambassadors and diplomats in Yerushalayim. “The public in the Arab states and in Iran itself are rising against Iran’s brutal oppression.”
