PA Parliamentarian Gets 15 Months Prison for Terror Membership

YERUSHALAYIM -

An Israeli military court has sentence a Palestinian Authority parliament member to 15 months in prison for her membership in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, The Jerusalem Post reported on Monday.

The court ruling was the result of a plea bargain in the case of Khalida Jarrar, who had been held in detention since June on several allegations including incitement to violence.

Jarrar’s case had attracted international attention, not only because of her political status, but also for the implications for future legal action where classified materials are used as evidence.

A lower court ruling by Judge Maj. Chaim Balilti said that the classified evidence was not sufficient to warrant keeping her in detention throughout the trial.

But in June, Judge Col. Netanel Benishu of the appeals court, reversed that decision, determining that, on the contrary, the evidence in question clearly demonstrated that Jarrar posed a danger to public safety.
