Palestinians Riot Near Beit Lechem

YERUSHALAYIM -

An Israeli soldier sustained a light head injury and a Palestinian was killed when a mob throwing rocks and firebombs attacked the soldiers overnight between Monday and Tuesday, according to IDF sources.

The incident occurred in Deheishe, near Beit Lechem, where a Golani unit was carrying out a security operation. Some 70 to 100 Palestinians set upon them with blocks, rocks and firebombs, hurled down from rooftops.

An IDF spokesman stated that “the force, feeling imminent danger to their lives responded with fire toward an instigator.”

The Israeli soldier was evacuated to a nearby hospital and the  IDF is currently investigating whether the 20-year-old Palestinian who was shot and killed belonged to a terror organization.

Sources from a Palestinian hospital reported the Palestinian fatality as Jihad al-Jaafari.
