I would like to bring the following to the attention of the public.
Many people visit zoos during Chol Hamoed with their families. A number of these places provide, either included in the entrance fee or sold separately, some feed for the animals. Often these are chametz, and are forbidden to bring into one’s possession, even though one has no intention of eating it. Furthermore, even if one has (unwittingly) already taken ownership of it, one may not destroy it by feeding it to the animals, as this constitutes benefiting from chametz by the pleasure one has in feeding the animals (see Shulchan Aruch 448:6 and Mishnah Berurah 28)
Wishing everyone ‘A Kosheren Pesach.’
