Hamas Nixes NATO Peacekeeping Proposal
Hamas has reminded Mideast peacemakers that any agreement which fails to take the Gaza terrorist organization into account will be hard to implement.
A spokesman for Hamas said Friday that it would regard any international military presence within a future Palestinian state as “occupation” forces, reported the Ma’an news agency.
The statement followed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s suggestion that NATO forces be deployed in the Jordan Valley instead of IDF troops.
Hamas official Abu Zuhri called on Abbas to quit the negotiations with the United States and Israel. “Nobody has authorized you [Abbas] to speak on behalf of the Palestinian people, or on behalf of Hamas or any other faction,” he said, according to Ma’an.
