Tax Authority Raids Foreign-Owned Apartments in Ashdod

YERUSHALAYIM -

The Israel Tax Authority has launched a campaign to ferret out foreign owners of luxury homes who are collecting rent without paying taxes, Globes reports.

After raiding a series of luxury apartments in Tel Aviv, tax investigators targeted some 200 such properties in Ashdod, including at the city marina. Dozens of teams raided pre-selected homes to collect information, and asked the tenants, as required by law, to show them their leases and how much rent they pay.

Tax Authority assessor for Ashkelon Iris Omer said that the documents would be examined in the coming days, and that the legal representatives of landlords abroad who are renting without reporting the income would be called in for questioning.
