Following a deadly rocket attack on Sunday, Israel on Wednesday reopened the Kerem Shalom border crossing for humanitarian aid deliveries, marking the first time since the incident.

According to the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), which is responsible for overseeing aid deliveries, trucks from Egypt carrying various supplies such as food, water, shelter equipment, medicine, and medical equipment donated by the international community have begun arriving at the crossing.

“After thorough security inspections by Ministry of Defense Crossing Authority personnel, the aid will be transferred to the Gazan side of the crossing,” stated COGAT.

Kerem Shalom stands out as the Gaza border crossing with the capacity to handle the highest number of humanitarian aid trucks daily. The crossing had been shut down following a Hamas rocket attack that resulted in the deaths of four soldiers.

The reopening of Kerem Shalom follows Israeli forces taking control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt and a strip of land along the 12-kilometer border, which occurred one day prior.
