The Ministry of Transportation has announced a significant milestone in Israel Railways’ development plan for the coming decades. The completion of the upgrade to electronic signaling across the country marks a crucial advancement toward modernizing Israel’s railway infrastructure.

This upgrade is crucial for the integration of new tracks currently under construction. Moreover, it incorporates state-of-the-art technologies such as electrification and railway cellular frequencies for enhanced control and safety during travel.

By 2040 Israel aims to achieve a milestone of 300 million trips annually on advanced electric trains capable of speeds up to 250 km/h.

The transition project from electric to electronic signaling commenced in 2014 and included the installation of 22 control and command systems at stations, the establishment of 250 kilometers of communication infrastructure, and the deployment of various signaling components like signalers, switches, and safety systems. Consequently, advanced, innovative, and safer electronic signaling systems have been implemented at all passenger stations, facilitating the seamless integration of newly constructed track sections.

The ministry further emphasized that the adoption of this new system will enhance train traffic management by the railway control and command center, ultimately elevating service quality and safety standards across the railway network.
