Reb Mordechai Eliyahu Friedman, z”l.

Hamodia is saddened to report the sudden petirah of Reb Mordechai Eliyahu (Mordy) Friedman, z”l as he was traveling from Los Angeles to New York. He was 64 years old.

Reb Mordechai was born in Los Angeles to Reb Chaim Aizik and Leah Friedman, and spent his teenage years learning in Telshe Yeshiva-Chicago, where he developed a close relationship with the roshei yeshiva, Harav Avraham Chaim Levin and Harav Chaim Dov Keller, zichronam levrachah. He continued on to learn in Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn as well as Yeshivas Mir in Yerushalayim.

Reb Mordechai married Miriam née Herzog, the daughter of ybl”c Reb Feish and Tova Herzog of Mount Kisko and later of Monsey.

He maintained a close kesher with the Novominsker Rebbe and Harav Shaul Brus, zichronam levrachah.

In his Torahdik home, he welcomed everyone warmly, and hosted struggling youth to help guide them in their lives.

The levayah took place at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon at the Novominsker Beis Medrash located at 1644 48th Street. A second levayah and kevurah will take place at the beis hachayim in Lakewood.
