Agriculture Ministry Opens Quotas for the Import of Eggs

The Ministry of Agriculture opened the quotas for the import of eggs – to a total of 40 million eggs – exempt from duty, for authorized marketers from the five countries approved for import: Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Poland and Argentina.

This move comes at a crucial time to ensure a sufficient supply of eggs for Pesach.

Israel uses 2.2 billion eggs per year. This amount is produced in the country, and only in the run-up to Pesach and the month of Tishrei is there a need for imported eggs.

The Ministry of Agriculture continues to monitor the rise in demand, and will increase the quota as necessary.
