Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chair MK Yuli Edelstein (Likud) held an introductory meeting in the Knesset on Wednesday with U.S. Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides.

Edelstein and Ambassador Nides discussed the various aspects of the strategic relationship and shared values that have existed for many years between the two countries.

The committee chair and the ambassador agreed that particularly at such a complex time, despite the possibility of differences of opinion between friends, it was important to continue to strengthen the relationship and the communication between the two countries.

In the meeting, Edelstein and Nides discussed the regional situation, regional threats, future possibilities of normalization between Israel and Arab states, and the activity of the two countries in international institutions, with a focus on the United Nations.

The two addressed at length Israel’s relations with the Palestinian Authority, and their effect on Yerushalayim and Yehudah and Shomron.

Edelstein told the ambassador, “I lived for 28 years in Gush Etzion. I know that life doesn’t stop; the families there are growing and it’s impossible to put their lives on hold. Construction should continue.”
