Report: Israel Against UNRWA Cuts

YERUSHALAYIM -

In the wake of reports that the Trump administration is considering cutting aid to UNRWA, the U.N. aid agency for Palestinians, Israeli officials are nervous that such a move would cause a humanitarian disaster and destablize the region, according to local media on Thursday night.

An Israeli Foreign Ministry official was quoted by Hadashot news as saying that Israel is opposed to any such cutbacks, and has told Washington so.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has publicly supported Trump on this, but behind the scenes has urged the administration to back off on its threat.

The Foreign Ministry would not answer queries on the matter Thursday.
