Wedding Meal of Fallen Soldier Donated to Poor
Major Benaya Sarel, Hy”d, who was killed during Operation Protective Edge in Gaza two weeks ago, was to have been married on Thursday night.
Although, the tragedy meant the chuppah was cancelled, family and friends decided to donate the wedding meal to a Yerushalayim soup kitchen in Sarel’s memory, Army Radio reported on Thursday.
In an on-the-air interview, Benaya’s father, Rabbi Shalom Sarel, spoke about his son’s noble character:
“Donating the food that had been intended for Benaya’s wedding to a soup kitchen to be shared with the needy just fit in with Benaya’s character; it is what he would have wanted. He was a young man of fine character, and now we will never know just how far he might have gotten,” his father said.
