In a joint statement released on Thursday by the Yerushalayim District Police and the Shin Bet, they announced the successful disruption of terrorist activities planned by supporters of the Islamic State in East Yerushalayim.

According to the report, two individuals were intending to construct and detonate explosive devices, as well as carry out shooting attacks targeting a police station in East Yerushalayim and another near Teddy Stadium.

The two perpetrators had been recruited by a foreign-trained terrorist with ties to IS, specializing in orchestrating terrorist operations within Israel.

Although their initial plans involved explosives, their attempts failed, prompting a shift toward a shooting attack instead.

Over the past month, the Shin Bet and the Central Unit of the Yerushalayim District Police have been actively investigating this specific terrorist cell, suspecting its members of planning attacks against Israeli targets.

These intended attacks mirror previous incidents involving planting explosives and using live ammunition under the guise of allegiance to IS.

Earlier, three individuals were arrested for similar affiliations with IS, all residents of East Yerushalayim. Investigations revealed their allegiance to IS and plans for multiple attacks in central areas of Yerushalayim.

Indictments against the two suspects are expected to be filed during upcoming prosecution trials.

Doron Turgeman, the Yerushalayim District police commander, commended the collaborative efforts of the police and the Shin Bet in combating terrorism.
