Modi’in Illit: UTJ Secures 14 Representatives in Municipality

Impressive results in the Modi’in Illit municipal elections as the joint United Torah Judaism party gains 14 representatives, including 4 for Agudas Yisrael. With a 76.5% voter turnout in the city, long time Maor Rabbi Yaakov Gutterman received 82.26% support with 21,888 votes for mayoral leadership.

For the city council, UTJ secured 14 representatives, with a total of 19,876 votes. Shas follows with 3 representatives and 4,871 votes, while Etz gained 2 representatives with 2,846 votes.

It’s worth noting that an agreement was reached between Shas and UTJ, ensuring UTJ’s 14th representative and an additional seat in the municipality. In addition, Mayor Rabbi Gutterman received 2,012 more votes than his party, UTJ, received.

Rabbi Tuvia Freund, head of Agudas Yisrael and deputy mayor, stated, “The sweeping results in these Modi’in Illit elections are remarkable, with an increase for UTJ from 13 to 14 seats, including 4 representatives for Agudas Yisrael. Despite the fact that Mayor Rabbi Yaakov Gutterman’s election campaign lasted only one day! Before Election Day, despite doubts, Rabbi Gutterman clarified that there was no need to add to the political campaign, which includes, chalilah, disputes and disagreements. He and, assuredly, the Gedolei Torah, clearly expressed their views, working tirelessly for the sake of the city residents without bias and with a sincere heart.

“We have passed through the election period quietly, smoothly, without conflict and dispute, without division and without lashon hara. In a mass kiddush Hashem, the decision was received in the best way for the city and all its residents.”
