A father, mother and their son were found safe and sound after they managed to extricate themselves from the canoe in which they were traveling before it hit a portion of the river which is fraught with rapids.

The family was enjoying a peaceful trip down the Neversink River between Woodbourne and Fallsburg when they were warned by people on the riverbanks that the river ahead had a series of rapids and a waterfall, and it was dangerous to proceed in the canoe.

The family told the people that they could not stop the canoe due to the swift current, which was most likely a result of the heavy rains which pounded the area over the past day. Worried of an impending dangerous situation, they called Hatzalah, who in turn informed local fire departments which responded with water rescue units. Multiple units from several municipalities responded.

An empty canoe was seen floating in the water, and the first responders were worried that the family had been thrown form it by the current or the rapids. After a short search, the family was discovered safe and sound walking along the edge of the river, and explained that they were able to leave the canoe and make their way to safety before it entered dangerous waters.
