Israeli Police have opened an investigation into MK Zvika Fogel for inciting terror over comments he made about the Palestinian village of Hawara, the police announced on Tuesday.

Fogel, an Otzma Yehudit MK, will be questioned by police about statements he made in a series of radio interviews after Jews rampaged in the Palestinian village of Hawara.

Buildings and dozens of cars were torched on Feb. 26 in what Jews described as a revenge attack for the murder of brothers Hallel and Yagel Yaniv, Hy”d, earlier that day. The brothers were shot and killed at point blank range by terrorists in Hawara.

One Palestinian was killed during the rampage.

The next day, Fogel said in an interview, “Yesterday a terrorist came from Hawara – Hawara is closed and burnt. That is what I want to see. Only thus can we obtain deterrence.”

In a separate interview, Fogel said, “The act that the residents of Yehudah and Shomron carried out yesterday is the strongest deterrent that the State of Israel has had since Operation Defensive Shield. After a murder like yesterday, villages should burn when the IDF does not act.”

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara already opened her own investigation into Fogel’s comments.

Fogel denies that his comments were intended to endorse illegal activities.
