YERUSHALAYIM – An IDF paratrooper was seriously injured during a training exercise when he was struck in the head by a ricochet at a military base in the south, the military said on Thursday.

The soldier was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

The soldier was struck by a ricochet to the head and taken to the hospital for treatment, while the family was notified of the incident, which occurred on Wednesday.

The military police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

It is the latest in a series of serious accidents in the IDF in recent months.

In August 2022, Staff Sergeant Natan Fitoussi was killed in a friendly fire incident during an operation at the Yehuda and Shomron security barrier, adjacent to the town of Shuweika. He was taken to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba in critical condition, but the medical staff were forced to pronounce his death.

Also in August, IDF tank crew member Eitan Fichman died from a head injury sustained inside a tank during a military exercise in northern Israel.
