Off-Duty Officer From 66th Precinct Shot in East New York

An off-duty NYPD officer who is assigned to the 66th Precinct in Boro Park has been shot in the head in East New York and is in critical condition, the New York Post reported.

The officer was attempting to purchase a car, arranged on social media when the seller pulled out a gun and tried to rob him. The officer drew his own gun and there was an exchange of gunfire.

The shooting took place at 472 Ruby Street near Linden Boulevard in East New York around 7 p.m. Saturday at 7 p.m.

The officer taken to Brookdale Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell stated that the officer was a 5-year veteran and was assigned to patrol in the 66th Precinct. The identity of the officer has not yet been released.

The suspect was described as a bearded man in his 20s, and was wearing a black sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, sources said.
