BDE: Rabbi Pinchos Aharon Weberman, Z”l

(COLlive) — Rabbi Pinchos Aharon Weberman, a pillar of the Jewish community in Miami Beach who served as a Rav for 62 years, passed away on Wednesday, at the age of 92.

Rabbi Weberman was born and raised in New York, and after getting married he was introduced to the Lubavicther Rebbe, z”l, with whom he developed a close relationship. The Rebbe encouraged him to use his talents and wisdom to help build a Jewish community, and in 1960 he chose Miami Beach.

At the time, Miami didn’t have much of a Jewish infrastructure and kosher food was difficult to come by. He was extremely influential in starting Jewish institutions in the city. His children were from the first students in the Lubavitch Educational Center (LEC).

He founded the Ohev Shalom congregation and served as the Rav for 62 years.

Rabbi Weberman built and maintained the Miami Beach eruv and was a member of the beis din. He also worked hard to establish a mikvah.

Throughout the years he maintained a strong relationship with the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who once asked him to write down his weekly sermons so other Rabbis could benefit from them as well.

He is survived by his children, Sarah Nitki, Eli Weberman, Dovid Weberman, Shaya Weberman, Brocha Friedman, Shoshana Dubinsky, Miriam Wiener, Zalman Weberman, Chani Gniwish, Shlomo Weberman, Brendy Aron, Bentzion Weberman, Bassy Lapciuc, Yisroel Weberman, and Hudy Jaimovitch.

The levaya will take place in Israel.
