It’s time to put their money where your inspiration is.

Instead of a usual closed commission, the decision-makers at the U.S. Mint have chosen to open up their newest creative project to the masses. To make some coin, you need only be the one chosen to make their coin.

Your government mission, should you choose to accept it: design the 2018 World War I American Veterans Centennial Silver Dollar.

The Mint has just launched the first phase of the open-call competition. You can submit (via the Mint’s website, www.usmint.gov/competition/wwi/) between three and five of your work samples by April 28.

From that phase, 20 artists will get a stipend to create designs and plasters.

The competition is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents age 18 and older. The winner will be announced by next January.
