MTA Sweetens Contract Offer to LIRR Workers

NEW YORK -

With less than a month before a potentially crippling LIRR strike, the MTA is offering a 17 percent wage increase over seven years. Its earlier offer called for an 11 percent hike over six years, The Associated Press reported. But the union is still pushing for a 17 percent increase over six years. A strike could come on July 20, affecting 300,000 daily riders.
