ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -

Rockland legislator Aron Weider on Monday was appointed majority leader by the Democrats who control the body, making the Spring Valley resident the first Orthodox Jew to hold such a position. Alden Wolfe was selected chairman, or speaker. Both Democrats will lead a veto-proof majority in their faceoff with county executive Edwin Day, a Republican. All appointments are for 2014.
