Orthodox Jew Becomes Rockland Majority Leader

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y.

Rockland legislator Aron Weider on Monday was appointed majority leader by the Democrats who control the body, making the Spring Valley resident the first Orthodox Jew to hold such a position. Alden Wolfe was selected chairman, or speaker. Both Democrats will lead a veto-proof majority in their faceoff with county executive Edwin Day, a Republican. All appointments are for 2014.
