The government on Thursday afternoon requested a further extension of two hours to present its plan to the High Court regarding the issue of draft of yeshivah students. This request comes after the government previously sought a half-day extension, submitted close to midnight on Wednesday.

Originally, the deadline for the government to submit its response to petitions calling for the immediate conscription of yeshivah students was March 24. However, the government requested a three-day extension, which was granted by the court. The court also warned that if no response was received by the extended deadline, it would base its ruling on the information already available.

The government’s second request for a deadline extension within 24 hours suggests that it is striving to provide a substantive response to the court before time runs out.

Just moments before the Wednesday night deadline, the Attorney General’s Office released a significant draft response, indicating that as of April 1, there would be no legal basis for exempting yeshivah students of military age from draft or funding stipends for full-time yeshivah students.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office criticized Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs for failing to deliver a detailed response to the court regarding strategies to increase the enlistment of yeshivah students in military service.
