Gov’t Greenlights Quota for Foreign Workers in Infrastructure Sector

The government has approved a proposal by Transportation Minister Miri Regev to establish a quota for designated foreign workers in the infrastructure sector.

Regev had criticized the lack of sufficient efforts by relevant authorities to bring in foreign workers, emphasizing the need for proactive measures.

Foreign workers recruited for infrastructure construction will undergo professional examination by the Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety before arriving in Israel. A control mechanism will ensure the arrival of skilled workers in infrastructure trades.

Moreover, the decision requires the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Population and Immigration Authority, and other relevant ministries to expedite the implementation of existing bilateral agreements and to negotiate new bilateral arrangements. This is meant to facilitate the swift arrival of foreign workers in infrastructure trades.
