President Biden Approves Federal Funds for September Floods

President Biden approved a declaration that the flooding which occurred due to the severe storms and flooding which hit New York between September 28 and September 30 is to be considered a major disaster and is eligible for federal funds to assist state, tribal, local recovery efforts, as well as certain private nonprofit organizations who assisted in those efforts.

The federal funding are available on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged in the counties of Kings, Nassau, and Westchester. Federal funding is also available statewide for hazard mitigation measures.

Federal recovery operations in the affected areas will be coordinated by Ms. Lai Sun Yee of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
