Suspect Arrested in Hate Crime Assault of Jewish Man in Far Rockaway

NEW YORK — A 34-year-old male was arrested a short distance away from where he allegedly unleased an unprovoked attack on a Jewish man in Far Rockaway in an apparent hate crime.

The victim, a 58 year-old man, was walking in the vicinity of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 25 Street when he was punched in the face by the perpetrator who spewed antiSemitic epithets during the attack.

The victim called the NYPD and the Rockaway Nassau Safety Patrol (RNSP) to report the attack, and gave a detailed description to the police and RNSP. The suspect was located a short distance away from the crime scene, and when fled when confronted by police and hid in a house in the area. He was caught and placed under arrest by the NYPD. He is being held and was charged with assault as a hate crime.

RNSP has increased patrols in the area, and recommends that anyone spotting suspicious activity to call the NYPD, as well the RNSP 24 hour hotline at 516-858-7300.
