YERUSHALAYIM — The chief of the Mossad, David Barnea, will follow Defense Minister Benny Gantz and national security adviser Eyal Hulata to Washington in the ongoing attempts to tilt the emerging Iran deal in Israel’s favor.

Barnea reportedly will fly to the U.S. next week, amid very negative comments from Israeli officials, but most of all from Barnea himself.

On Thursday, Barnea castigated the United States for “rushing into an agreement that is a complete lie,” referring to the revival of the nuclear deal with Tehran.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Motzoei Shabbos demanded an explanation of the leaked remark, although Lapid himself had been almost as derogatory.

“On the table right now is a bad deal. It would give Iran $100 billion a year,” Lapid said on Wednesday, adding that the cash windfall will be used by Iran-backed terrorist groups Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad to “undermine stability in the Middle East and spread terror around the globe.”

“In our eyes, it does not meet the standards set by Biden himself: preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear state,” Lapid added.

On Sunday, Lapid reiterated to reporters that “the IDF and the Mossad have been instructed by us to prepare themselves for any scenario. We will be prepared to act to maintain Israel’s security. The Americans understand this, the world understands this, and Israeli society should also know it.”
