Naval Commandos Intercept Gaza-Bound Weapons Shipment

It was cleared for publication on Wednesday that last month Israeli naval commandoes intercepted a Gaza-bound weapons shipment.

The joint IDF-Shin Bet security service operation took place on April 8 and saw Israeli forces seize maritime smuggling infrastructure through which weapons and components were being shipped into the Gaza Strip.

The infrastructure was taken down in the midst of a smuggling attempt, the IDF said. Three suspects were arrested as they were trying to cross into Egypt’s territorial waters. The vessel on which they were traveling was seized and the suspects were handed over to the Shin Bet for interrogation.

Ashdod Naval Base Commander Col. Eli Soholitzki said commandoes “hit a significant route used to transfer weapon-production components to terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip. The IDF works tirelessly to prevent terrorist organizations from growing more powerful.

“The intelligence efforts in the IDF and the Shin Bet, together with the troops on the ground and at sea, helped lead to the success of the operation.”
