After the Iron Dome defense system intercepted a rocket fired at the western Negev on Monday night, the IDF launched retaliatory strike against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, destroying one of the terrorist organization’s weapons workshops.

In a message, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said, “The terrorist organization Hamas is responsible for all terror activity emanating from the Gaza Strip.”

The rocket fired Monday was the first one terrorist groups in Gaza had launched at Israel since September 2021. It set off a Color Red alert in Kissufim and Ein Hashlosha.

The Eshkol Regional Council issued a statement saying that residents had heard the explosion from the interception, and that there were no reported damage or injuries. The council also said there were no special instructions in place for residents.

Meanwhile, in the western Negev, which borders the Gaza Strip, there has been concern for some time about a possible escalation as tensions spread nationwide.

Firefighters and first responders were making preparations to handle a new onslaught of explosives-laden balloons floated over the border fence by Hamas operatives in an attempt to cause wildfires.

This was the first strike Israel conducted in Gaza in over three months and the first rocket fire aimed at the Israeli territory since September.
