5 Stolen Sifrei Torah Recovered
Israeli police in Tel Aviv on Thursday night announced the recovery of five sifrei Torah of great value that had been stolen during a break-in at a synagogue in the city.
The suspect in the theft, carried out on October 15 at the beis knesses on Ben Ami Street, has been apprehended, police said. The suspect had been arrested and then released by a local court on insufficient evidence, but was re-arrested after an intensive investigation produced more evidence of his guilt.
The precious Torah scrolls are estimated be worth hundreds of thousands of shekels.
