Construction Worker Missing Under a Collapsed Wall in Sunset Park

FDNY is searching for a missing worker at a construction site located at 714 39th Street. Five construction workers were digging in the basement of the site today, and luckily four had left for a lunch break before a two-story wall collapsed at that site. The fifth worker, who remained behind, was trapped under the debris. Nearby buildings were evacuated due to safety concerns.

An employee at the nearby Challenge Early Intervention reported that rescue vehicles of all types converged on the site while NYPD cordoned off the area. Trucks from as far away as Red Hook were called in to assist in the rescue operation. Walls surrounding the site were disassembled to allow FDNY equipment to enter the site. The ground was saturated with water to soften it so that oxygen could be pumped in for any possible survivors.
