NY College Paper Headline: ‘Making Amerikkka Great Again’
The post-Election Day headline in a New York state college’s student newspaper is making headlines for linking President-elect Donald Trump with a white supremacist group.
Wednesday’s edition of Buffalo State College’s The Record featured the headline “MAKING AMERIKKKA GREAT AGAIN” over a page-one, above-the-fold story on the Republican’s victory in Tuesday’s election. The C in “America” was replaced with three K’s, a reference to the Ku Klux Klan.
Buffalo State President Katherine Conway Turner said in a statement that school officials “recognize that the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution affords all citizens the right to free speech and protects the freedom of the press.”
That, Turner said, extends to the content and opinions published by the college’s student newspapers.
