Ten Days of Terror Attacks

In the 10 days since the wave of terror was renewed, 175 incidents have been reported, most of them involving rock throwing and firebombing. Thirteen security personnel and civilians were injured; seven terrorists were killed and five wounded. A total of 145 terrorists were apprehended by the army and police in raids across Yehudah and Shomron.

On Sunday, the Israeli security forces began a reinforced presence around the country that will carry on until after the chagim, usually a sensitive period. Special attention will be paid to keeping order in Yerushalayim, Chevron and other areas which have witnessed Palestinian violence in recent months.

Over the weekend two police vehicles were attacked by stone throwers in the Mavo Horon area. In the end, police caught sight of the attackers, and gave chase while firing warning shots in the air. Three were arrested and brought in for questioning.

On Friday afternoon, a 14-year-old Palestinian terrorist attempted a stabbing attack at Elias Junction, near Kiryat Arba. IDF soldiers opened fire and seriously wounded the terrorist, who was then taken to hospital. B’chasdei Shamayim, none of the soldiers was injured.

Malachi Levinger, who heads the Kiryat Arba-Chevron council, said, “On Erev Shabbos, a dangerous and vile person has again tried to murder Jews near the entrance to Kiryat Arba-Chevron. Thank G-d, our devoted security forces managed to neutralize him before he caused any harm.

“Just a few days ago, we had a festive meal of thanksgiving in this exact place, to thank G-d for the obvious miracles that we witness almost every day,” Levinger added. “The people of Kiryat Arba-Chevron are strong in spirit and will not be scared by the attempts of these violent [people] to murder us. However, we call upon the leaders of this country to do more to prevent terrorists from attempting to disrupt our daily lives.”
