Search Continues For Escaped Inmate, A Convicted Killer

BARNEGAT, N.J. (AP) —

An escaped inmate and convicted baby-killer eluded authorities for a sixth day Sunday, leading to increased security at schools near where he was last seen.

Barnegat Mayor John Novak said that a flood of leads failed to turn up Arthur Buckel, 38, and that state officials told him that he is no longer there.

Surveillance video showed Buckel shopping at a CVS on Wednesday, a day after the minimum security inmate was found missing when guards did a count at Bayside State Prison in Hammonton. Hammonton is about 50 miles southwest of Barnegat.

Buckel had been scheduled for a parole hearing later this month.
