Four Canadian Women Arrested In New York Grandparent Scam

ALBANY (AP/Hamodia) —

Four Canadian women were charged in New York with trying to scam money from older people by claiming the victims’ grandchildren were in legal trouble.

State and local police along with federal agents made the arrests of four women ages 29, 42, 57 and 61 from the Montreal suburb of Laval. They were caught last week when they traveled to the Albany area to pick up packages of money linked to the scam.

The women targeted older people by calling or emailing and claiming their grandson had been arrested in another state and needed money quickly to pay for bail. A second person would then get on the phone, identify himself as a police officer and advise where and how to send the cash.
