Palestinian Terrorist Opens Fire On Israeli Soldiers, Shot Dead

YERUSHALAYIM (AP) —

Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian terrorist after he opened fire at soldiers at a military checkpoint in the Jordan Valley on Friday, the army said.

A car approached the checkpoint and a gunman from inside the car opened fire at the soldiers. The army said soldiers returned fire, killing the man.

No soldiers were wounded in the incident.

The military provided no other details on the identity of the attacker beyond saying that he was Palestinian. Officials in the area had no immediate details and no terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The man’s body was taken away by a military ambulance.

It was the third such violent incident in eight days.

Last Sunday, a Palestinian stabbed and wounded an Israeli paramilitary policeman outside the Old City of Yerushalayim. The policeman shot back and wounded him. Last Friday a suspected Palestinian gunman shot at two Israeli hikers near a Jewish community in Yehudah and Shomron and killed one. The assailant escaped.
