De Blasio Fights Leaks, Orders New Gracie Roof
Taking his battle to fight leaks to the next level, Mayor Bill de Blasio is getting a new roof over his head, city officials said Thursday.
The mayor himself is not moving. Instead, Gracie Mansion will be getting a replacement for its leaky roof. The current roof, which is over 30 years old, is overmatched during storms and there have been multiple leaks in the past three months.
Bids for the project were due Friday and a winner will be chosen within the next two weeks, according to officials. Construction is slated to begin in March and last several months.
The de Blasio family will remain in Gracie during the renovation.
